Festive Yule Log Baking
Christmas is right around the corner and a Sur La Table baking class is perfect for getting in the holiday spirit. I gathered the girls as we all attempted to bake a yule log for the ultimate in festive Christmas treats.
The chefs and host at Sur La Table were exceptional, offering tips and tricks as well as additional hands-on experience. We used the entire 3-hour course to bake our treat to perfection and topped it off with various edible elements to reflect our personal style.
Traditionally made from sponge cake, the yuletide treat dates back to 19th century Europe. Yule logs are typically served with one end already sliced off, for that extra authenticity. The bark-like texture of the logs is created by piping an icing or chocolate fondant over the cake. For that added ‘tree bark’ or log effect you can pull a fork through the chocolatey covering and sprinkle it with powdered sugar to emulate a light dusting of snow.
The best part was that each baker received a 15% off coupon for any item in the store including clearance and final sale items. We each roamed the store and picked out pieces that would inspire our next baking adventure.
I ended the night with a little taste of the yule log and Sur La Table’s Apple Moscow Mule Cocktail Mix (no longer in stock). It was the perfect day to decorate the Christmas tree and soak in the holiday spirit!
