Los Angeles Wedding at Pasadena Masonic Temple | Fiona & Doug
After a lifetime of waiting for the right person, Fiona and Doug's wedding day carried a softness and a sweetness you could feel from the moment it began. Fiona dreamed of something whimsical—a fairy-garden ceremony, bubbles in the air, a Hawaiian-inspired bouquet that felt like home. Doug's dream was even simpler: he wanted to give her everything she wished for. And he did.
A Guest List Full of Love
One of the most incredible parts of this day? The people.
Fiona and Doug invited 300 guests just seven weeks before the wedding. More than 200 said "yes" without hesitation. That kind of response tells you everything. People adore them. And they showed up—ready to celebrate, ready to support, ready to be part of this long-awaited moment.
A Fairy-Garden Ceremony in Los Angeles
The ceremony took place at the Tea House & Japanese Friendship Garden in Brand Park. It's quiet there. Peaceful. The kind of space that holds a story well.
As bubbles drifted through the air and sunlight moved across the garden, Fiona walked toward Doug with a bouquet that nodded to her Hawaiian roots. It was tender and emotional and exactly the kind of moment that becomes an heirloom.
Cocktails at the Historic Pasadena Masonic Temple
After the ceremony, guests made their way to the Pasadena Masonic Temple—one of the most iconic historic wedding venues in Los Angeles.
If you've never been, the foyer alone can stop you in your tracks. Grand staircases. Incredible architecture. A feeling that you're stepping into something timeless. (We wrote a full review of the Pasadena Masonic Temple Wedding Venue here).
It was the perfect place to ease into the evening with cocktails, conversation, and the kind of excitement that builds just before a reception begins.
A Reception Straight Out of Old Hollywood
When the reception doors opened, the experience shifted instantly. The Big Band Alumni—a full 17-piece orchestra—welcomed Fiona and Doug into the room. Live music filled every corner. Guests lit up. It felt like stepping into a scene from a classic film.
Fiona is a lifelong dancer, and the dance floor mattered deeply to her. She transformed it. White manzanita trees. Twinkling fairy lights. A soft glow that wrapped around the room.
It was romantic, magical, and completely her. People danced. They laughed. They didn't want the night to end.
A Wedding Day We’ll Always Remember
Planning a two-location wedding, with 200+ guests, a big band, custom design, and only a few weeks to pull it off… it could've been overwhelming. But Fiona and Doug led with trust. And together, we built something beautiful.
Their words say it all—this wasn't about extravagance or perfection. It was about honoring what mattered, staying true to their vision, and making space for joy.
And that's what this day became: joy, love, gratitude, and a few hundred people cheering on a marriage that was worth every minute of the wait.

From the Couple
When we began planning our wedding, we had no intention of hiring a planner. Our sense was that wedding planners were a luxury item, who found ways to spend more and more money to create an event with a lot of useless accoutrements we'd regret over time. In the end, however, our greatest regret about our wedding is not having hired a planner – and this planner in particular – much earlier. We had thought we knew what we needed to know (find a place, get music, and throw a party), but, of course, there was so much we didn't know about what else was needed. Haylie took us on when we were in desperate condition, having picked locations for our ceremony and reception, but with not nearly enough time to get everything necessary done, and raced with us to the glorious finish line. Never pressuring, but always letting us know what needed to be done that week, or that day, Haylie led us through the morass of finding catering, bakers, lighting, décor, flowers, furniture, and all the minutiae we'd never thought of.
But most importantly, she wasn't someone working to find ways for us to spend more money to make this event more elite; rather, she constantly helped us find less expensive alternatives, always honoring our particular tastes and creative ideals. For example, before we started working with her, we'd created a small Engagement Event in the groom's hometown for relatives who wouldn't be able to make the wedding. A photographer there had taken surprisingly excellent pictures of us. So while we were looking for an LA photographer we could afford, Haylie contacted the hometown one, and found that we could fly her out, board her, and have her shoot the wedding, more cheaply than we could find anyone here. Even above her professionalism and knowledge, Haylie's greatest asset is her ebullient and spunky personality. Speaking with her was always fun and energizing, with her joyously finding ways to get us excited about what we had to do next. And this showed, not only in her relationship with us, but in the ways she worked with the vendors, locations, officiant, musicians… everyone simply had a better time because we had Haylie and her crew.
We fully recommend Haylie to anyone planning a wedding, small, medium, or large. The only negative we have about her is that, as we fully intend to stay together for the rest of our lives, we have no reason to hire her ourselves again. If we found one, we would.
