Lacuna Lofts Review
Heirloom Event Company does not receive a commission for positive reviews or venue referrals for Lacuna Lofts
Once a bustling factory established in 1897, Lacuna Lofts is now one of the most distinctive wedding venues in Chicago. Located in the Pilsen neighborhood, this sprawling 250,000-square-foot property combines its industrial roots with colorful artistic details at every turn.
Our first introduction to the space was the Reverie Gallery, a spacious setting that seats up to 350 guests. It’s a BYOB venue featuring creative details like repurposed shipping containers turned into a modern bar setup—just one of many playful, urban design elements that make the space feel fresh and memorable.
For couples searching for an unexpected wow factor, the Skydeck is availabe for as an optional rental for your ceremony or cocktail hour. With glass railings and sweeping views of the Chicago skyline, it feels intimate and romantic—especially at sunset. The space includes 175 white folding chairs and makes for one of the best late-night rooftop photo opportunities in the city.
Lacuna Lofts provides a versatile canvas for modern, creative couples looking to make a bold statement.
Price
One of our 2023 couples rented the Skydeck for cocktail hour at $1,100 and the main reception space for $8,000 to accommodate 228 guests. These rates align with other Chicago wedding venues of similar size and style.
However, once rentals, catering, and additional logistics were factored in, their total spend landed closer to $46,000—excluding alcohol, which added another $6,000.
The Lacuna Wedding Package in 2023 offered excellent menu flexibility at $130 per guest. This included three passed hors d’oeuvres, a plated starter, two entrées, a vegetarian option, and a choice between wedding cake or a mini dessert station. While linens were not included, the package did cover china, glassware, labor, a bar mixer package, and full bar setup.
The venue includes 250 wooden cross-back chairs and 30 round dinner tables, which complement a range of aesthetic visions.

Planning Process
Lacuna Lofts is particularly well-suited to larger weddings involving multiple spaces, though this can present its own challenges. When we stepped in as month-of coordinators, there was a lot to catch up on quickly—a 225+ guest count across separate ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception locations. However, the responsive and organized venue team proved invaluable. Their clear communication and willingness to collaborate helped streamline decision-making and minimize stress during the final weeks of planning.
That said, it’s worth noting that the venue works best when the timeline is finalized early. Any last-minute adjustments can be tricky. For couples working with a coordinator or planner, Lacuna Lofts’ team provides plenty of support to help bring your vision to life.

Day-Of Execution
A wedding day is bound to come with surprises, and unfortunately, our 2023 experience at Lacuna Lofts wasn’t immune to a few complications.
The couple’s Chi Town Limbo bus was significantly delayed due to a flat tire—an issue we were not informed of until we personally called to request an ETA. This delay, combined with an extended photo session at the ceremony site, resulted in the bridal party arriving later than anticipated to the reception venue.
Lacuna’s team runs on a strict timeline policy, and while we commend their dedication to efficiency, the lack of flexibility proved frustrating—particularly for the bride and groom, who were not granted even a few quiet moments to themselves before rejoining their guests. We made multiple requests to adjust the timeline slightly—postponing the grand entrance, cake cutting, and rooftop photos—but were often met with a firm no due to the venue’s policies.
Couples should keep in mind at Lacuna, once your timeline is finalized, there may be very little wiggle room. This can be both a positive and a drawback. On the one hand, it keeps your vendors accountable, ensures everything runs efficiently, and helps you avoid overtime charges.
On the other hand, in situations like ours, where there were unforeseen delays, it created a sense of being rushed. We could have easily made up for the lost time later in the evening—perhaps by delaying open dancing by just a few minutes—but instead, we were forced to keep pushing forward at a pace that didn’t feel natural for the flow of the night. The result was a beautiful event, but one that felt unnecessarily hurried due to the venue’s inflexibility.
We highly recommend allocating extra buffer time for key moments to avoid feeling rushed.
