Artifact Events Review

Heirloom Event Company does not receive a commission for positive reviews or venue referrals for Artifact Events.

There are some venues where you walk in and immediately understand the hype. Artifact Events is absolutely one of them.

Guests are often awed by the spaciousness. High ceilings, glowing lights, and the building’s industrial structure make the atmosphere dramatic yet warm. Couples can choose between cozy wood accents or a modern industrial look, depending on the styling.

Another standout feature is the option for an outdoor courtyard ceremony, which is rare for Chicago loft venues. With multiple ceremony and reception layout combinations, Artifact Events offers flexibility to design a wedding that reflects your vision.

But like many venues with striking architecture and large spaces, that flexibility and scale come with important considerations.

Price

A grand, visually impressive space in Chicago rarely comes cheap, and Artifact Events is no exception.

For approximately $22,750, couples receive:

  • A six-hour venue rental

  • Round tables and chairs

  • Lounge furniture

  • A five-hour bar package

However, Artifact Events is not an all-inclusive venue. Catering, florals, entertainment, and many rentals must be sourced separately.

There are a few contract details couples should factor into their budgeting:

One of the more unusual policies is an 80% guest count guarantee. Couples must pay for at least 80% of the estimated guest count. If attendance falls below that number, the couple is still responsible for the difference. This is not a common requirement among Chicago venues and can make early guest list projections especially important.

Wedding parties may enter only 90 minutes before the event, so setup can be tricky unless extra hours are purchased. Extra time costs $900 for the first hour and $500 for each additional hour.

The contract also specifies that the house chairs cannot be used for courtyard ceremonies, so couples must rent chairs separately for this option. There are restrictions on courtyard music as well, since no DJ or amplified sound is permitted. This means only non-amplified, spoken audio such as vows and officiant remarks are allowed in this outdoor space.

Catering flexibility is available, but if couples do not use one of the venue’s preferred caterers, there is a $1,000 fee. Outside catering teams must also reset tables and chairs exactly as they were found at the end of the evening, or the couple may incur additional charges.

Because of these nuances, couples considering Artifact Events should review contract details carefully and ideally work with a planner to help navigate the logistics.

Planning Process

Before we go deeper into the planning process, it’s important to note that staffing and management at Artifact Events have since changed, and the issues below were resolved before the wedding day itself.

During the early planning phase, there were a few inconsistencies between what was discussed and what ultimately occurred. For example, when our couple asked whether the venue received commissions from vendors, they were initially told no. However, after selecting a preferred caterer (to avoid the $1,000 outside vendor fee), they were presented with a $2,000 commission payable to the venue.

When the discrepancy was raised, the then-General Manager's response was unfortunately dismissive, and the fee remained in place.

There was also confusion around the pricing of the courtyard ceremony space. The couple had originally been told that if the courtyard remained unbooked, it could be rented for $1,000, but once it became available, the price increased significantly.

Planning improved greatly once Emily Brick became manager. She was proactive, thoughtful, and solution-focused, offering pre-ceremony champagne, early access, AV discounts, and extra lounge furniture.

More importantly, she demonstrated genuine care for the couple and the success of their wedding day—exactly the kind of partnership couples hope for from their venue team.

Day-Of Execution

The day-of experience at Artifact Events was exceptional. Emily and the on-site team were attentive, warm, and proactive throughout the event. They checked in regularly, anticipated needs before they were voiced, and ensured both the couple and vendor team felt supported.

From staging and room transitions to coordinating with vendors and guiding guest flow, the team handled each moment with professionalism and care. The contrast between earlier planning challenges and the actual wedding day execution was striking.

Once the new leadership team was in place, communication, organization, and service improved significantly—and it showed. The venue staff played a major role in making the celebration run smoothly from start to finish.

Value

Artifact Events offers a visually stunning space, flexible layout possibilities, and excellent day-of service. The venue's architectural character is memorable, and its ability to host both indoor and outdoor events adds versatility that many Chicago venues lack.

However, couples should enter the process prepared for additional costs, vendor coordination, and contract clarity. Because the venue is not all-inclusive and includes several restrictions, budgeting and planning require careful attention.

For couples who love the aesthetic and are comfortable managing the logistics, ideally with the support of an experienced planner, Artifact Events can deliver a spectacular celebration.
